The Capignacian company specializing mainly in pavement maintenance and rehabilitation has managed to carve out a place of choice among the many workers on the New Champlain Bridge project, in Montreal, as a partner of Signature on the St. Lawrence. The secret of this company? Rely on the best teams, own the best equipment on the market and master the most advanced techniques.
Last fall, a team of about eight workers from the company HDF Constructions worked in the Montreal metropolitan area to contribute to the largest project in the country, the construction of the brand new Samuel-De Champlain bridge. Recall that this project has started since May 2015 and should be completed by the end of June 2019 at the latest. HDF has completed its share of work since the end of December and work is expected to resume in the spring.
Infrared Asphalt Preheating: An Underused Technology with Great Potential
At this time of year, one crucial step must be completed before paving the new lane crossing the Saint Lawrence River: slab preheating and the installation of a waterproofing membrane.
This is made possible by propane-powered infrared preheaters. Not common in Quebec, the infrared preheating process is an operation that allows work to continue in cold weather, which extends the operating season. This procedure also allows work to start earlier in the spring.
Other major projects
HDF Constructions also secured the leveling contract for Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve and Montréal’s Pierre-Elliot-Trudeau airport during spring 2018. This work was carried out robotically using 3D guidance, with the aim of accurately performing a profile correction. Recall that leveling is a process of disintegration and removal of materials that allows for the correction of certain deficiencies in the rolling surface.
In order to be able to obtain such contracts, HDF Constructions has two adapted equipment that offer the possibility of performing optimal precision work by 3D guidance, namely a W250i with a width of 2.5 meters and a W220 with a width of 2.2 meters. Five other planers, of variable dimensions, also allow to offer different services such as the planing of asbestos coatings and microplaning. ” It is by having passionate, rigorous and qualified employees that we succeed in making the most of the game. We train our employees and are open to doing things differently, both on construction sites and in the administration. The synergy of the team generates excellent logistics for construction sites and our willingness to innovate allows us to obtain important contracts,” explain François Pelletier and Caroline Hébert, co-owners of the family business.
HDF Constructions
Let us recall that HDF Constructions works everywhere throughout the province of Quebec. The well established company for nearly 60 years also offers stabilization and spraying services, asphalt paving, sweeping, snow removal and purchase, sale and rental of heavy equipment.
